Dark Tide (2012)

This movie stars Halle Berry. That's all it really stars and it really is primarily a Halle Barry vehicle. Also appearing in the film is Oliver Martinez as the "love interest." Their relationship is never made fully clear. Are they married? Boyfriend and girlfriend? Engaged? The movie seems to imply all of the above at various points. The movie opens on Jeff (Oliver Martinez) filming, what seems to be a documentary, about Kate (Halle Berry) and her singular ability to free-dive with great white sharks. Tommy (Mark Elderkin) is the main boat crew. Themba (Sizwe Msutu) is her safety diver. They embark on a dive but misread the "body language" of the sharks and Themba is attacked and killed. Kate of course blames herself and spends the next year serving a self imposed penance. In this time she's been ignoring Jeff and is in a financially precarious situation. Then Jeff shows up and he has a wealthy dude named Brady (Ralph Brown) who wants to dive with sharks and will resolve all her financial troubles. Jeff uses the romantic connections to persuade Kate to take the job. Her boat is repaired overnight and they head out to sea the next day with Brady and his son Luke (Luke Tyler). They set up a dive in the cage, some sharks appear but lose interest. Brady isn't accepting of this, leverages Jeff against Kate, and just pisses off everyone. He's been pissing off everyone the whole movie but this is especially egregious. Kate gets mad and decides to take him to "Shark Alley." Once there, the conditions are obviously bad but Kate taunts Brady and challenges his manhood till he also gets in the water. The situation promptly turns worse, the boat capsizes, and everyone is in the water with the sharks. Tommy's leg gets bitten off, Brady is eaten by one of the leaping sharks. Every "innocent" except Luke is killed in this movie. Brady is the main bad person, at least he dies, but Jeff is also a $#!+head and he survives and ends up back with Kate. The movie has a false ending, then proceeds with a "message" ending that makes zero sense. Also, everyone is dressed for cold the whole movie. Yet Halle Berry strips down to a bikini every time she gets in and out of the water. The cover image is Halle Berry in a bikini She also walks around the boat deck in a bikini while everyone else is wearing a beanie on their head. It's a poor excuse to create bikini time. It's garbage. Aggregate IMDb rating of 4.3, metacritic of 23. 3 out of 10 from me.
