Big Daddy

This was a 1999 release featuring Adam Sandler as the misguided Sonny Kofaux who decided he will adopt Julian 'Frankenstien' McGrath (Played by Cole and Dylan Sprouse) after he is dropped off at the apartment that he shares with Julian's father Kevin Gerrity (John Stewart). Kevin Gerrity has no idea he has this son or that he is coming and is on his way out of the country when Julian is dropped off with Sonny. As Sonny goes through a series of events getting to know and as he takes care of Julian we learn more about Sonny's past and why he thinks keeping Julian is a good idea.

Eventually Sonny actually starts to become a responsible adult and role model for Julian, this occurs right around the same time that the State realizes that Sonny impersonated his roommate Kevin in order to retain custody of Julian. The State ends up taking Julian from Sonny and presses charges. Sonny must rely on his knowledge from Law School as well as his many Attorney friends to avoid going to prison.

I have always enjoyed the Adam Sandler films but I thought this one represented a bit of turning point for Sandler. This one still featured many of his common cohorts in film but was less based on drunken antics. I enjoyed the more serious subject matter of this film.

Funny and entertaining film, nothing to be watching from a cinematic standpoint. 2 out of 5 stars (and that may be a bit generous).
