The Santa Clause

The premise for this movie is a simple play on words in the title of the movie. Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) is an ad executive for a toy company who ends up having to take care of his son on Christmas Eve. After several blunders the duo has dinner and before putting his son to bed he reads him The Night Before Christmas. Shortly later a special visitor startles the pair. When Scott goes to investigate what appears to be a Santa impersonator falls off of the roof.

Soon the impersonator disappears leaving the suit with a card telling the finder to put on the suit and that the reindeer would know what to do next. Following his son Scott Calvin gets on the roof and into the sleigh, he spends the rest of the night being flown around town by the reindeer delivering presents. When he wakes up the next morning he is convinced it was a dream until he begins to rapidly gain weight, and his beard turns gray.

Soon he accepts his new role as Santa, but will his ex-wife? or the courts after she files sole custody?

This was a thoroughly entertaining film. I had pretty much forgotten how entertaining this film was. 2 1/2 out of 5 stars.
